Consisting of eight lectures, the series, Architecture and Urban Development of the Deccan Sultanates, begins with an overview of the evolution of Indo-Islamic architecture and the manner in which the newly introduced social, cultural, and political ideals and religious beliefs and the existing Indian traditions interacted and shaped the architectural style. In this lecture, 7th of the series, you will learn about:
- a brief historical background of the area of Ganjam in Srirangapatna;
- the symbiotic relationship between Hindu and Muslim rulers reflected in architecture; and,
- the development and features of Ganjam’s architectural monuments.
This series of lectures was prepared in collaboration between the Centre for the Study of Architecture and Cultural Heritage of India, Arabia and Maghreb (ArCHIAM), based at the University of Liverpool, UK, and the Aga Khan Trust for Culture Education Programme.
