The Al-Ruwas Mosque was built by Rawas bin Badr bin Mohammed bin Fadhel al Kathiri around 1800 and renovated in 1980. It is associated of the al-Ruwas tribe of Dhofar and identified by its ornate minaret with green dome. Its interior is also decorated, with a mihrab inlaid with mosaics, lighting from lamps along the walls, a central chandelier, and eight wooden doors. Masjid Aqeel or Aqeel Mosque is known as the oldest mosque in Salalah, Oman. It is said to have been founded by Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Aqil Ba’amer and was completed by Abdullah bin Ahmed bin Aqil bin Zain Ba’amer and named for the jurist Sayyid Aqil bin Imran Ba’amer who died in 1652 AD. Its construction relied on limestone and wood, as well as fibers of the coconut tree, shells, and clay. The mosque has been renovated and expanded throughout the centuries, most recently in 2008 after part of the structure collapsed. Bait as-Sail is a merchant house in Salalah, Oman. It is a three-story structure which faces south towards the sea. As is typical of architecture of the region of Dhofar, Bait as-Sail is primarily built of limestone; however, its elaborate wooden doors and windows were imported from East Africa, indicative of the high socio-economic standing of its original inhabitants; some windows of this variety in Salalah are also masonry. The structure served both a residential and commercial role; the bottom floor was likely used for storage and/or for business. There are nine floors, on each of which inset shelves in the walls would have served as a storage space or for lighting by lamps. The hotel is situated on the beach between two palm groves and next to Salalah city. It serves as an official reception building and provides lodging in its 100 guestrooms for the newly developing tourist business. In its massing, the hotel consists of a central, public area flanked by two guestroom wings. The central pavilion contains the entry court, in the style of an Arabic garden, and all public and reception facilities. The gallery bordering the central block at the back makes the link to the swimming pool and its terrace.
